About the Races

The GPT100 Dunkeld Trail Races are a way for this incredible run to engage with the beautiful town of Dunkeld, the iconic start/finish location of the Grampians Peaks Trail, in the Southern Grampians. It is a collaborative effort between the GPT100 team of SingleTrack Events, the Peaks and Trails organisers and volunteers, and the Southern Grampians shire.

Dunkeld has a small population of just over 600 and is a well known town for those who seek adventure and fine food in the foothills of Gariwerd country. Nestled below Mount Sturgeon/ Wurgarri and with views of Mt Abrubt/Mud-Dadjug the town has a strikingly beautiful backdrop that entices the adventurer within. With many local businesses keeping the main street thriving, the town is the ideal place to spend a day or two or five and soak it all in.

The addition of these two community fuelled races on Sunday Morning will see the town rally around the whole weekend of Trail Running. The idea is to bring out the local families to get a taste of the GPT100 event and to give those who have already ran their race a chance to support the town of Dunkeld by getting their kids and family involved.

Starting on Sunday morning these races aim to finish just before the cut off and final runners of the GPT100 Miler. These runners and teams start on Friday at Mount Zero, and will have completed the entire Grampians Peaks Trail by Sunday morning. It will be a joy for them to finish to the roars of the Dunkeld community. We hope once the community comes to celebrate the rest of the finishers of the 100 mile stage race through to 5 pm Sunday.

course description

The course for the 2k and 5k will be entirely along the Grampians Peaks Trail. Both of them are out and back runs starting on Sterling St and Finishing under the wooden arch at the GPT100 Finishline. This is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself on some local trails through mostly river flats with endless views. There are no long climbs along either course and so it is the perfect race for anyone to come along and give it a go.
